Oxipack Presents High-Speed Inline Leak Detection at Interpack 2017

Published on
March 30, 2017

Are you familiar with flexible pouches containing juice or liquid snacks for pets, often equipped with a spout lid? Until recently, testing these pouches for micro-leaks was not feasible. However, Oxipack has now developed an inline leak detection solution, which will be showcased at the Interpack 2017 exhibition in Düsseldorf from May 4 to May 10 2017.

Innovative Leak Detection for Flexible Pouches

Oxipack's latest innovation can test 60 flexible pouches per minute for leaks, fully automatically. This groundbreaking technology will be demonstrated at Interpack 2017, highlighting its ability to perform high-speed, non-destructive leak detection. This is the first leak detector in the world capable of inline testing such a high volume of flexible fluid packages.

Serge Smit Explains the Technology

Serge Smit, Managing Director of Oxipack, explains the challenges and the innovative solution behind this new leak detection method. Traditional gas detection methods do not work for these pouches because they contain no detection gases and have minimal headspace. To address this, Oxipack developed a method that measures pressure changes within the package itself. This method allows for accurate detection of leaks without needing an enclosed gauge, enabling rapid testing.

Why the Industry Needs This Innovation

There is a significant demand for this type of leak detection. Food manufacturers have long sought a reliable solution for testing flexible liquid packaging. The ability to detect leaks in products such as sauces and soups has generated considerable interest. Oxipack's solution meets this demand, providing a much-needed advancement in the field.

High-Speed Leak Detection Demonstration

The demo machine at Interpack 2017 will showcase how flexible liquid pouches are tested for leaks at high speeds. Pouches move through the detection unit in a U-shape, with the capacity to test 60 packs per minute. In a fully integrated packaging line, the system can achieve speeds of up to 120 packs per minute. This process is highly accurate, capable of detecting leaks as small as 10 microns, depending on the liquid's viscosity.

Customized Demonstrations at Interpack

Visitors to Interpack 2017 will have the opportunity to see customized calibrated leak demos, demonstrating the accuracy and speed of Oxipack's leak detection technology. The trade show is the ideal venue for unveiling this sustainable and visionary invention, offering attendees a firsthand look at the future of leak detection.
